The Importance of Yoga – A Way of Life
Yoga is not merely a physical exercise; it is a complete way of life that integrates the body, mind, and breath. It teaches balance, discipline, patience, and inner strength. Yoga helps us remain healthy, calm, and focused, enabling us to face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has repeatedly emphasized that Yoga is India’s priceless gift to the world. Under his visionary leadership, Yoga has become a global movement promoting holistic health, harmony, and peace. He has consistently encouraged people of all ages and abilities—including persons with disabilities—to adopt Yoga as a daily practice for physical well-being, mental clarity, and emotional stability.
Yoga, especially through breathing practices (Pranayama), demonstrates the power of breath in sustaining life and controlling the senses. Our ancient sages practiced deep meditation and penance for years by mastering their breath. This timeless wisdom is highly relevant today, when pollution, unhealthy food habits, stress, and lifestyle diseases have become widespread. Yoga offers a natural and effective path to counter these challenges.
Daily Practice of Yoga at Santhivardhana
Following the guidance and inspiration of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Santhivardhana has integrated Yoga into the daily routine of the school. Children are encouraged to practice simple Yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques every day under the supervision of trained staff.
Specially adapted Yoga practices help children with disabilities to:
Improve flexibility, balance, and motor coordination
Enhance concentration and emotional regulation
Reduce anxiety, restlessness, and behavioural challenges
Build self-confidence and inner calm
Yoga is practiced in an inclusive and joyful manner, ensuring that every child participates according to their ability. This daily routine has become an essential component of Santhivardhana’s holistic care and rehabilitation approach.
International Yoga Day – 21 June Celebration
On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, celebrated on 21st June 2025, Santhivardhana was privileged to receive an invitation from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Secunderabad, Telangana.
From our special school, 21 children, accompanied by 3 parents and 3 special educators, actively participated in the Yoga Day celebrations. The children performed Yoga asanas and breathing exercises with great enthusiasm, confidence, and discipline. The event provided them with a unique opportunity to experience national-level inclusion, dignity, and encouragement.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the authorities for their warm hospitality and for making excellent arrangements, including comfortable accommodation and nutritious food, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for all participants.
Let’s exercise and live healthy.
