Santhivardhana Ministries is deeply committed to serving the surrounding community within the limits of its available resources. As part of this commitment, Santhivardhana Home for the Aged was established as a dedicated branch of the organization to address the needs of elderly women who are vulnerable and neglected. The Home specifically serves women aged 50 years and above, providing them with a safe, nurturing, and dignified living environment.
The Home focuses on holistic care, ensuring access to nutritious food, regular healthcare, emotional support, and overall rehabilitation. Every effort is made to uphold the dignity, wellbeing, and independence of the residents, enabling them to live their later years with comfort and respect.
Studies by the National Council on Aging indicate that nearly 92% of senior citizens live with at least one chronic illness, while 77% suffer from two or more chronic conditions. Diseases such as heart ailments, stroke, cancer, and diabetes account for a significant share of morbidity and mortality among the elderly. In rural areas, the situation is further aggravated by poverty, lack of family support, and limited access to healthcare services.
Most rural elderly individuals have minimal formal education and have spent their lives engaged in agriculture or daily wage labor. As a result, they often lack sufficient savings, pensions, or social security benefits, apart from a modest old-age pension that barely meets basic needs.
Recognizing this pressing need, Santhivardhana Ministries has identified and extended care to 30 highly vulnerable elderly women from the surrounding operational areas. These women have been provided food, shelter, and continuous care within the premises of the organization. The Home offers a secure and protected environment, safeguarding residents from neglect, abuse, and external threats, and enabling them to live in peace and safety.
Beyond basic care, the Home encourages companionship, mutual support, and active participation in daily routines. Residents are involved in age-appropriate activities such as agriculture-based product preparation, caring for the Goshala, small income-generating initiatives, and recreational and learning activities. These engagements help enhance their self-worth, emotional wellbeing, and sense of purpose.
Through these efforts, Santhivardhana Home for the Aged strives to restore dignity, security, and hope to elderly women who would otherwise be left without care or support.
